What sympthoms does EMDR help with?
EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. When you cut your hand, your body works to close the wound. If a foreign object or repeated injury irritates the wound, it festers and causes pain. Once the block is removed, healing resumes.
EMDR therapy demonstrates that a similar sequence of events occurs with mental processes. The brain’s information processing system naturally moves toward mental health. If the system is blocked or imbalanced by the impact of a disturbing event, the emotional wound festers and can cause intense suffering. Once the block is removed, healing resumes. Using the detailed protocols and procedures learned in EMDR therapy training sessions, clinicians help clients activate their natural healing processes.

What will happen during your sessions?
EMDR therapy involves attention to three time periods: the past, present, and future. Focus is given to past disturbing memories and related events.
Normally, the therapy is divided into eight phases. I can give the treatmens in 3 to 5 sessions depending on the level of trauma. The more complex, the more sessions are needed.
Session 1
The first investigative assessment session one takes one hour 15 minutes. We will identify possible tagets for EMDR processing.
Sessions 3-5
Additional sessions will take one hour. I will ensure you have several different ways of handling emotional distress. You will identify three things:
- vivid visual image related to the memory
- a negative belief about the self
- related emotions and body sensations
The goal of EMDR is to produce rapid and effective change.
EMDR treatment processes all related historical and current incidents that elicit distress, and future events that will require different responses
Results of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
After succesful treatment with EMDR therapy you will experience:
- A relieve of affective stress
- Reformulation of negative beliefs
- A reduction of physiological arousal
- New associations are forged between traumatic memory and more adaptive memories
- Development of cognitive insights
